Watchdog says Google, Facebook, WhatsApp pay 22 mln rbl in fines
MOSCOW, Jan 13 (PRIME) -- Google and Meta Platforms’ Facebook and WhatsApp have paid the fines of 22 million rubles, while Twitter is yet to obey, the Russian communications service said late on Wednesday in a statement.
The Tagansky District Court of Moscow considered in 2021 the administrative offense reports drawn by the communications regulator on Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and Google, which had failed to localize databases of their Russian users.
The court fined WhatsApp 4 million rubles and Google 3 million rubles. Facebook and Twitter were punished with 15 million and 17 million rubles, respectively, for a repeated violation.
